Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant, Certified Personal Trainer, Senior Fitness Specialist

My name is Jill Scharfenberg, I am a Physical Therapy Assistant and a Certified Personal Trainer with a special certification in Senior Fitness and owner/operator of Fitness Over 50.

I have over 13 years of experience in working with the senior population in various Settings. I started my Physical Therapy Assistant career at a skilled nursing facility. I have since worked in homehealth care, rehab centers, outpatient settings, and hospital settings. I have experience in the ICU with critically acute patients, as well as with spinal injuries, traumatic brain injuries, orthopedics, cardiac respiratory care, oncology, CVA’s and trauma.

Within these different settings, I found one common denominator that lead people to seek medical care: The major cause of injury was due to loss of balance resulting in falls. I decided instead of treating the aftermath of the falls, I wanted to attempt to decrease the amount of falls and help seniors with maintaining their balance.

This is what led me to become a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) through the National Association of Sports Medicine (NASM) and to obtain a Senior Fitness Specialist Certification.

As a Certified Personal Trainer, I have the knowledge and expertise in conducting appropriate assessments, identify strengths and weaknesses to create an individual exercise program uniquely designed to your goals.

I will design programs that take in consideration any pre-existing or current medical conditions. This program will incorporate strength training, flexibility, core strength and balance while you are being closely monitored.
